Josh Blake’s Jukebox
On route to Jamaica in January 1997, Josh stopped in Asheville, N.C. to visit some of his friends. Soon thereafter he moved to Asheville to help establish the musical force known as GFE. With GFE Josh has toured the world and played on an extensive list of festivals and venues. A multidimensional artist, Josh’s musical understanding is based on his 20 years as guitarist and songwriter. With a travelers knowledge of our world, Josh tries to uses his talents to bring unity and jubilation, to spread earth consciousness and end social injustice.
Josh Blake’s Jukebox is composed of some of Asheville’s finest musicians. The solidity starts with drummer Patrick Thomas (Strut, Wooden Toothe, The Hillside Bombers). Guitarist and bassist Casey Cramer and Elijah Cramer are also from the band Strut, and used to play with the Josh Phillips Folk Festival. Affectionately dubbed “The Hot Sauce” female vocalist Marisa Blake spices up the show with beautiful harmonies and some solo performances. Keyboardist Ryan Burns (The Invisible 3, formerly JPFF) and Multi Instrumentalist Matt Williams (Zansa, Caro Mia Tiller, Tiny Boxes) have also been known to join in on the fun. On a good night, Josh’s friends from Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band and The Asheville Horns come through and swirl their texture into the musical layers. Top it all off with percussionist Johnny Durkin (Deep Banana Blackout, Vinyl, and more), and you have the delicious musical treat known as Josh Blake’s Jukebox.
Along with packing local venues, Josh was honored to have songs selected for the 2008 and 2011 Mooged Out album. Other notables for “The Jukebox” include headlining LAAFF main stage in 2008, as well as closing out the Saturday night street Pre-Party in 2012. Josh was also selected to take part in The Warren Haynes Xmas Jam by day in 2012. Playing in local favorite Woody Wood’s band, as well as sitting in with The Asheville Horns and Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Josh Blake has played on multiple Downtown After 5 stages, one of Asheville’s premier downtown events. Josh Blake has also been the house guitarist for Asheville’s most popular weekly “The Tuesday Night Funk Jam” since 2007.
With songs that range from rock to bluegrass, hip-hop to reggae, Josh Blake’s shows deliver what most listeners crave…great music with the proper intention. Be sure to check them out at a venue in your town soon!
